Are Dems About to Do Something Really Stupid?

I did a friend’s podcast yesterday, and it was JUST before the Musk-Trump implosion really got going. We knew Elon wasn’t happy, we knew he was attacking Trump’s Big, Beautiful Bill, but he hadn’t gone Defcon 5 yet, and neither had Trump.

About an hour after our pod, it all exploded.

But one thing we asked ourselves was what, essentially, would happen to Musk’s money?

Trump, if we believe he won’t actually try to run again (and that’s a big “if” for me), doesn’t need his money. But Republicans sure do. With the 2026 midterms fast approaching, you better believe Congressional Republicans were counting on a lot of Musk’s money to go to their re-election efforts.

Will Musk still help them? Will Trump look at that as a betrayal if GOP members take his money? That’s still an unknown.

But we also asked, somewhat jokingly, if Democrats would be dumb and craven enough to try to woo Musk back to the left. And it looks like we have our answer.

At least one Dem lawmaker is hoping so.

Rep. Ro Khanna, a California Democrat, and someone I’ve interviewed and like, said publicly today that he hopes Musk will realign with the Democratic party.

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., talked with one of Elon Musk’s “senior confidants” on Thursday about whether the ex-DOGE leader, now feuding with Donald Trump, might want to help the Democratic Party in the midterms.

“Having Elon speak out against the irrational tariff policy, against the deficit exploding Trump bill, and the anti-science and anti-immigrant agenda can help check Trump’s unconstitutional administration,” Khanna told Semafor on Friday. “I look forward to Elon turning his fire against MAGA Republicans instead of Democrats in 2026.”

Khanna, who has known Musk for more than a decade, has long argued that Democrats unwisely pushed him away from their party.

That’s right, a guy the left has repeatedly accused of being a nazi, a white nationalist, a self-dealing opportunist, a Trump bootlicker, a lunatic, an absentee father, a nepo baby, a drug user, a job killer, and SOMEONE WHO’S RESPONSIBLE FOR KILLING KIDS WITH CANCER, is going to be welcomed back into the fold? For money??

With many seeing who Musk really is in these embarrassing moments of utter self-destruction, Ro Khanna really said, “hold my beer.”

I don’t question Khanna’s motives – I’m sure he just wants Dems to win, and sees Musk’s money as the mechanism. But the Dems’ biggest problem today is that voters don’t trust them – on issues, yes, but also regarding ethics, hypocrisy, and integrity.

If they attempt to wrap their arms around him now, essentially saying he was bad when he was with Trump but he’s good now that he’s with us, this will only cement the distrust. It would be a TERRIBLE look for the left, and make fools of every lawmaker and liberal talking head who rightly slammed Musk for months as DANGEROUS.

Come on, guys. Do better.
